  2. The Shielding effect in particular is extra interesting heresince Shielding affects only the Fixed Damage (and is the only thing that affects it), not the random Damage Interval. Armor Class is what decides how much damage you take and how often you take damage. It mitigates damage and it makes the mob miss it's attacks against you.

In the RPG

This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

The shadow energy (aka Shadow Plane) is not limited to a single plane; it is instead an integral part of every aspect of the universe, woven into every plane. Thus, spells that call upon this energy, such as shadow conjuration, draw upon local sources rather than reaching to another plane. Positive energy remains associated with the energies possessed by living beings, and negative energy with the motive forces of death and the undead. Magical weapons that have effects wielding this energy draw upon energy bound into their own material, freed by enchantment.[18] 'Shadow' is spell type common to many items and spells created by the Shadow Council and other such nefarious organizations.[19] The arcane and shadow magic appear to be tied together.[20] Shadow appears to be split into subcategories or is synonymous with 'Darkness', 'Negative', 'Death', 'Destruction', 'Chaotic', 'Evil', and 'Fel'. It is a damage type often found as a bonus type damage (enchantment or enhancement). In one example it's also a sub-school of the magic school of Illusion (illusions composed of a quasi-real, tangible shadow material with shadow bonuses, ex. Storm, Earth and Fire).[21] Spells of shadow may derive their power from actual shadows & darkness.[22]

What is Corruption Gear

Corruption Gear is a new gear system that comes out in patch 8.3. Some gear have a chance to become corrupted. All gear that comes out in patch 8.3 will not be able to become Titanforged and Warforged. All gear before 8.3 will still be the same, with a cap of 455.

This gear has a specific boost on it, see table below.

The higher tier the gear is, the better boost there is.

Tier 1
Tier 2
Tier 3

There are some gear that is not based on tier.

There are insane weapons with corruption on it.

How does it work

All Corrupted gear will give some kind of boost (see above). However, every piece of gear has a certain amount of Corruption on it.

The more corrupted gear you have on you, the higher amount of Corruption your character will have.

The amount of Corruption your character has will also put a debuff or several debuffs on your character.

10 corruption Grasping Tendrils

Taking dmg has a chance slow you for 5 Sec.
The higher corruption the more the slow increases.

20 corruption Eye of Corruption

Your spells and abilities have chance to summon an eye for 8 sec that that does shadow dmg every 2 sec on you when you are close to it. Range and dmg increases the higher corruption you have.

40 corruption Grand Delusions

Taking dmg has a chance to summon a Thing that chases you for 8 sec.
Its speed increases the more corruption.

60 Corruption

If the thing catches you, you will also take more dmg and you will get affected by grasping Tendrils and the eye directly.

80 Corruption Inevitable Doom

Damage taken increased by 10% and healing reduced by 10%. The higher corruption after, this increases. It increases by 1% for every corruption above 60 and starts at 10% when having 60 in corruption.

The amount of corruption on the Corrupted gear is based on based on difficulty to get the item, basically what Tier it is. This is just an example of corruption and the exact number will be known soon.

Tier 1 Corruption 10
Tier 2 Corruption 15
Tier 3 Corruption 20

If you don´t want your item Corrupted

There will be times where you don’t want the gear you got to actually be corrupted. For example if the boost it does is wrong for your char, or if you get way to high corruption so the debuffs are to much for you. Therefore there is a system to remove the corruption from it.

You can remove the corruption from your gear (cleanse it) by talking to MOTHER in the Heart Chamber, same place Magni is located in Silithus.

It doesn’t cost anything at all to cleanse the gear.
